IMAGINE: Learning to Live Together Preventing Racism and Radicalization

Global Education Week is an annual worldwide awareness-raising initiative that takes place during the third week of November. It is a call to rethink our world together, using Global Education as a tool for solidarity and change, and contributing to a more sustainable and equitable world.

Global Education Week is linked to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which aim to eliminate extreme poverty, reduce inequalities and combat the threat of climate change by 2030.

In the framework of this celebration and with the funding of the CoE Centro Norte Sur and the Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain, the European Institute of Education for a Democratic Culture (ECUDEM-UCV) has prepared the training activity for young people "IMAGINE: learning to live together by tackling controversial issues", which starts today, 25th November in the city of Valencia, and which will bring us together in this beautiful place until Saturday 26th with the aim of promoting new forms of education and socialisation.

European experts in non-formal education, participation, interculturality and human rights education from the Intercultural Institute of Timisoara, the University of Valencia, the University of Barcelona, the DARE network (Democracy and Human Rights Education in Europe) and the Movimiento contra la Intolerancia-Valencia are accompanying us for the training.

The main objective of IMAGINE is to develop the basic knowledge and skills to promote the leadership of future education professionals in dealing with controversial issues, in order to strengthen the values and principles of democratic culture through education.

We will learn how to carry out different educational proposals within the framework of European values and the prevention of racism, anti-Semitism and xenophobia, especially understanding the impact of social networks on hate speech.

With these activities we hope to become a source of inspiration for the consolidation of the intercultural and democratic character of the education system within the European context.
