Presentation

As a result of our new internationalization initiative, we are offering a new training programme in our Physiotherapy Degree. Ninety-six credits out of a total of two hundred and forty are taught in English. According to our policy, the maximum number of students admitted to this international group is going to be 20 for the first year. We will be providing special counselling and support for international students and they will be taught in small groups so that they can receive quality advice and support.

This new training programme gives  students the opportunity to develop skills through training based  on a problem-solving approach and exposes students to new technology and research. Moreover, students receive over 1,000 hours of work placement as part of the programme, out of which 900 hours are spent within the framework of collaboration schemes with foreign universities in the student’s countries.

  • Day care centres
  • Primary Health centres and specialist centres (depending on the Physiatrist)
  • Old people’s home
  • Sports clubs
  • Special needs schools
  • University lecturers or continuing education centres
  • Private clinic
  • Sports centres and gyms
  • Hospitals and health centres
  • Specialist centres in Work medicine and traffic accidents.

Practicum

The Practicum is a compulsory part of the Study Programme and it is organised in the subjects called ‘Supervised Work Placements’ accounting for a total of 42 ECTS. They are offered in the first semester of the third course and in both semesters during the last course. They involve a minimum of 1050 hours of practical work and 210 hours of independent work (including the writing of the Work Placement Report). They have the following credit distribution:

  • Supervised Work Placement I: 6 ECTS
  • Supervised Work Placement II: 18 ECTS
  • Supervised Work Placement III:  18 ECTS

The Supervised Work Placements aim at incorporating the student into a real-setting learning context so they can assimilate what they learnt and apply their knowledge to specific clinical cases determining and putting into practice the necessary physiotherapy treatment techniques. They will also apply their knowledge in the area of disease prevention and health promotion.

Our Faculty and its counterparts in the foreign receiving universities have specific agreements which allow students who undergo our international programme to do in-patient and out-patient work placements in primary health and community care centres as well as in socio-sanitary centres, old-people’s homes and other professional settings.

Students undergoing the Physiotherapy Degree can choose to take the Supervised Work Placement I, planned for the first semester in the third year, in the foreign universities with which an agreement has been signed or in English-speaking physiotherapy clinics (Dénia Hospital and its health centres). The work placement is undertaken during the first month of the semester, so that students can attend the rest of the sessions without any overlapping during the remaining months in the semester.

Supervised Work placement II, scheduled for the first semester of the fourth year in the Physiotherapy Degree are undertaken in collaboration with foreign universities with which an agreement has been established, and will take place in the last two or three months of the first semester after on-campus academic activities in the other two subjects in the study programme have finished.

Supervised Work placement III, planned for the second semester of the fourth year in the Physiotherapy Degree are undertaken in collaboration with foreign universities with which an agreement has been established. There is no overlapping with other subjects as no on-campus activities is in progress at this time of the academic year (theoretical sessions, practical sessions or seminars). Students can write their TFG (final undergraduate project) receiving online supervision from their tutors.

External supervisors (PAAP) guide and monitor the student throughout their Supervised Work placement with a view to promote a high quality training model which fosters to integrate practical experience with the theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom setting. This is achieved through a monitoring carefully planned and put into practice, based on objectives which act as a guide for the students, so they are aware of what they are expected to learn in every period according to their level.

Some of the activities carried out by the PAAP are the following:

  • To enhance the integration of the student in the healthcare team.
  • To do a one-to-one monitoring adjusting to the individual learning pace and improving personal abilities.
  • To Assist the student in their learning process fostering self-regulation and autonomy.
  • To provide the student with a humanistic and scientific training including professional ethics.
  • To give students the chance to take part in scientific sessions or activities happening at the unit
  • To point the students some readings to complementary for their training.
  • To guide the student in case of an accident during the work placement and to make sure the right protocol is followed.
  • To take part in the evaluation of students at his or her unit or health centre once they have finished their work placement.

We have signed several agreements both in our region and with some foreign universities to make it possible for our students to undertake the supervised work placements in English. As of today, we have signed agreements with universities in France, Belgium, Holland, Switzeland, Germany, Portugal, Turkey, Denmark, Finland and Italy.

The process of management of Practicums includes the following phases:

Our work placement coordination department is responsible for the management of the work placements during the third and fourth course. Places are allocated according to academic record (weighted mean), at the beginning of every semester through our intranet, using the work placement online programme. In this way, students can choose the placement offered at private health clinic, hospitals and health centres (Supervised Work Placement I) collaborating with the placement programme, or they can choose the universities under agreement (Supervised Work Placement I, II and III).

Final undergraduate project

The final undergraduate project accounts for 12 ECTS and is undertaken in the second semester of the last year of the degree. It is required that students have successfully completed 85% of the credits of the Degree.

The final undergraduate project consists in presenting a piece of work to an examiners board. The project should integrate the received training content and the acquired competencies.

The objectives of the project are the following:

  • To integrate and apply the knowledge and techniques acquired throughout the degree in a professional, creative and dynamic way, following an appropriate methodology.
  • To consolidate and increase the knowledge and competencies received during the degree in the areas they will have to use in their professional career.
  • To provide effective and efficient solutions to problems arising during the elaboration of the final undergraduate project using the knowledge, techniques, capabilities and abilities gained and developed throughout the degree.

An academic or internal tutor supervises the students at all times and meets with them regularly to guide them in the design and elaboration of the research project. This includes looking for background literature, establishing objectives, designing and applying the suitable methodology, obtaining results, processing the data and writing the dissertation which comprises the discussion, the conclusion and the consulted bibliography.

In the international itinerary of the Physiotherapy Degree the final undergraduate project is developed and presented in English.

Bachelor's Thesis

The Bachelor's Thesis is carried out in the final year of the degree, and it is an indispensable requirement in order to earn the Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Management. By carrying out the thesis, the student puts into practice the knowledge acquired in the coursework phase of the degree. The reflection in a practical manner of the skills and abilities that have been developed in the previous years is one of its main goals. In a general manner, the thesis must empower the student for the search, management, organization and interpretation of relevant data in the areas of economics and business. It must also allow them to make judgments that include reflection on relevant social, scientific, technological or ethical issues which facilitate the development of critical thinking as well as logical and creative judgment.

MODULE ECTS SUBJECT ECTS COURSE ECTS Year and Semester

In carrying out the thesis, the student takes the final step in his or her insertion into the job market or into higher studies. To that end, the student will count on the assistance of a professor-adviser who will guide him or her throughout the course. With an original paper the student has to prove that he or she is able to tackle a complex topic in a rigorous, synthetic manner. The student will have the opportunity to submit and defend his or her thesis in front of a committee of professors.

In the thesis the student puts into practice the knowledge acquired in the different subjects he or she has taken in the degree. The student will carry out research related to any of the topics studied in the degree which will be in line with the research and study lines of the School of Economics and Business. The different areas and/or specific projects will be announced on the Virtual Campus UCVnet so that students can choose on which area or areas they will write their thesis along with the directors available in each area. The students will be able to propose alternative topics as long as they are approved by the professor in charge of coordinating the subject.

Examples of Bachelor's Thesis (among others):

Research papers such as the behavior of consumers in relation to a specific product or general market studies of a product or of countries, markets and financing instruments or others that can be proposed and accepted by the academic commission in charge of the Bachelor's Thesis.

Students may develop projects focusing on the Creation of a Business (business plan) or business expansion such as international expansion, vertical integration, mergers or acquisition and integration of organizations.

The proposals of Bachelor's Thesis can be related to the elaboration of projects related to the organizations where the student carries out the practicum with prior authorization from the business and being supervised by an adviser from the business and an adviser chosen from the teaching staff that teaches the degree.

The relationship between the director and the student is based on mutual trust, understanding and empathy. Following the director’s guidance, the student is responsible for adequately reflecting the knowledge, methods and tools acquired during the degree and will be assessed on them. In order to facilitate the flow of work, the following basic functions are included.

The student’s responsibilities are to:

  • Adequately elaborate on the topic that is being studied
  • Define the work roles (in the case of teams)
  • Apply the most appropriate methodology as a function of the topic being studied
  • Search for and review the relevant sources of information for the thesis including the subjects assimilated throughout the degree
  • According to the type of study, to carry out the field work, surveys, market research, financial analysis as well as economic and empirical research.
  • Attend and participate in the work sessions with the adviser
  • Make any changes the adviser deems appropriate
  • Write and review the written report
  • Submit and defend the thesis orally

The adviser’s functions are to:

  • Define the topic of study and the goals of the thesis
  • Provide guidance on the methodology
  • Point students to the main sources of information
  • Facilitate conflict resolution
  • Keep a record of attendance and participation in the work sessions
  • Follow up on the fulfillment of the programmed goals
  • Validate that the thesis meets the minimum requirements to be defended.
  • Write a report on the students' work which may be assessed by the committee according to the assessment criteria for the thesis
  • Attend the oral defense of the thesis.
  • Participate as a committee member in the defense of other theses.

The coordinator of the subject will be responsible for:

  • Providing information regarding deadlines and requirements
  • Coordinating workshops with the orientation service in the event that they are necessary
  • Organization of the committees and defense sessions
  • Guide students on possible topics for the thesis

The elaboration of the thesis is subject, in any case, to the general UCV regulations thereof.

As a result of the work undertaken, the student will craft a written document by way of a report of the work done in the thesis. It will be published on the Virtual Campus with the director’s approval.

The adviser will write a report assessing the students' work that may be assessed by the committee according to the assessment system for the thesis. In this report, the director will confirm that the thesis has been done under his or her supervision along with the assessment of active participation in the three work sessions.

Once completed, the thesis will have to be submitted and defended in a public presentation before a committee of professors. The thesis commission will assign the committee members by selecting teaching staff with teaching in the degree. When the circumstances so require, the committee may be constituted by professionals with experience in the field of study of the thesis.

Students will have 10 minutes to carry out a presentation with the aid of the materials they deem appropriate. They will have to present the goals, methodology, results, content and conclusions of their thesis. They will later answer questions that may be posed by the Committee members. After the presentation, the committee will have 5 minutes to ask questions or to request clarifications and make comments and suggestions.

Students will have five additional minutes to make appropriate clarifications to the committee. The committee will take into consideration both the written document and the presentation made by the student according to the assessment criteria in the teaching guide for the Bachelor’s Thesis.

ASSESSMENT SYSTEM OF THE ACQUISITION OF SKILLS AND MARKING SYSTEM
For the purpose of measuring the acquisition of the skills of the course through the learning outcomes defined previously, an Assessment System has been designed which is presented next.
The committee will take into account the written paper, the presentation and defense as well as the adviser's report in the percentages that are reflected next.
The Guide of the subject shows the assessment criteria for the subject and the assessment criteria for both the presentation and the defense of the written work.
